Whether you are parenting a baby, child, or young adult, you are undoubtedly familiar with that overwhelming feeling of needing to take some time off to unwind. Unfortunately, for most parents that time never truly comes, although they take relief in knowing there is someone else to depend on for extra hands, moral support and even a shoulder to cry on.

Mom Kesha Bernard knows very well how frustrating it may be, which is why she decided she needed some alone time away from her children. Little did she know that once you mother a child, you are a mother for life.

Sitting on a plane and dreaming of her fast approaching vacation, Kesha suddenly heard a baby crying vehemently, so she turned to face the source of noise. Then, she noticed a mother of three struggling to calm down her children. She explained the whole situation in a Facebook post:

“I hear a woman complaining to this mother that her child needs to stop kicking her seat. Then I hear the mother say ‘she’s 3, I can’t believe you just did that’ – apparently, the lady reached behind her and grabbed the child’s leg.”

Kesha explained that the flight attendant standing by was fully aware of the situation – but did nothing to help. To top things off, older men who were sitting beside Kesha were mumbling rude remarks. No one was offering this woman help, not one.

Kesha could no longer stand by and watch. She understood she needed to act quickly. It was as though she was on autopilot, her maternal instincts kicking in with no second thought. She walked up to the woman and asked her if she needed help, and the latter was quick to take Kesha up on her offer and handed her the baby. Kesha returned to her seat and placed the baby on her lap:

“Here I am on vacation away from my kids (who I absolutely love to death but sometimes you need a break from toddlers) and I’m flying with an infant on my lap. Why? Because I’m a decent human being. Listen… it takes a village to raise kids OK? And as a mom of a 3-year-old and 4-year-old, I KNOW this.”

Kesha wrote the post using social media as her chosen platform. It did not take long for the post to go viral, but as for Kesha, if people were to leave her post with one message, this is the one she wanted to stick:

“How we can ignore a human in distress [is] beyond me. Please be kind. Please be considerate. Help one another… it makes everything easier. I promise.”
