New mom Mariah Kaitlyn Herrera was having a difficult time losing weight after giving birth to her newborn baby. She went to a regular checkup at her local doctor’s office in Eugene, Oregon, who diagnosed Herrera and prescribed her anti-anxiety medication for her postpartum condition.

In order to commit a full body check up, Herrera had to face her worst nightmare – discover her weight. She approached the scale with a worried look on her face, but then noticed an unpredictable note attached to it, reading:

“This scale will only tell you the numerical value of your gravitational pull. It will not tell you how beautiful you are, how much your friends and family love you, or how amazing you are!!”

The note was signed with “your nurse,” who wished not to be named since in her view, the gesture was obvious and was not of any importance. The Charnelton Community Clinic nurse said she simply wrote what she felt, and although she was glad it made Mariah feel better, she did not need recognition.

“This is the second time I’ve seen this in the doctor’s office and I LOVE IT,” wrote Mariah on her Instagram account. “SERIOUSLY these should come with every scale! Completely changes how I feel about stepping on the scale especially because I know I’m working on myself.”

Mariah said her pregnancy demanded a 5-month weight loss program, which has proved to be much harder than she anticipated.

“I had a terrible pregnancy, a complicated delivery and a 100-plus pound weight gain,” she went on, “I ate everything in sight when I was pregnant and it completely altered everything in my body.”

The 24-year-old asserted that the weigh-in caused her severe depression since she no longer felt as though she recognized her own body.

“Taking my weight has always been my least favorite part about going to the doctor but since having a baby that feeling has just gotten 10 times worse,” Mariah explained. “I walked out of the office feeling confident. I felt like a completely different person,” said the new mom.”

Those note might have seemed ordinary to the unidentified nurse, but it just so happened that those words changed Mariah’s entire outlook about her body: “It made me feel like the number doesn’t mean anything. It changed the way I was thinking.”
